Day Trips

Usually this time of year, with the weather getting more and more glorious, our family starts planning some day trips. Not long vacations, but fun little jaunts to a local attraction within a few hours' drive. We like to be home every evening, as we are homebodies in the strongest sense of the word. More than Joanna Gaines, I dare say. :) Day trips also allow us to bring Pruitt along, and we don't have to worry about the hassle of finding a dog-friendly hotel.

Here are a few of our favorite places to go. One outdoorsy, one tourist town, and one a combination of the two.

Bond Falls

Located near Watersmeet, Michigan, this is an ideal hiking spot. You can hike all the way down to the base of the falls, snap some pictures, and then work your way back up the other side. This may be a better spring outing, as the mosquitoes can be pretty horrid in summer. (Gosh, I'd be a terrible travel agent, wouldn't I? I'm already telling you everything that's wrong with these places. Well, it is good to be honest, right?) Have bug spray, long sleeves and long pants. Really though, the sights are gorgeous, so mosquito bites may be quickly forgotten.

Cedarburg

Perhaps my favorite tourist town, complete with a confectionery, coffee shops, winery, beautiful old buildings and houses. Sigh :)

It tends to be my destination of choice around my birthday. I just love it so much. If you go there, be sure to stop at the Cedarburg Coffee Roastery for coffee. Also, on the second floor of the Cedar Creek Settlement shops is this lovely vintage clothing boutique called "Dime a Dance." I could spend hours in there!

Door County

Here's the combination tourist location/outdoorsy excursion. Some of our favorite stops on our way up the peninsula...

Door County Coffee and Tea. They have more flavored coffees than you could possibly imagine!

Olde Orchard Antique Mall

Lautenbach's Orchard Country Winery & Market (where I get dried cherries for my signature biscotti recipe)

Whitefish Dunes is home to "Old Baldy," the tallest sand dune in the state of Wisconsin. At the top of the dune is a scenic outlook tower, another great opportunity for photos. There's also a dog beach at this park, so bring Fido along! (Pruitt loves Whitefish Dunes as much as I love Cedarburg.)

Happy travels!

'Til next time,

Eva
