Button-down + pencil skirt + pointy-toe pumps = fabulous.
In today's style post, I'm sharing a lineup of a few fashion icons (and myself) sporting the classic button-down and pencil skirt combo. My main point is that there are endless permutations and combinations of this outfit. Remember those wretched probability story problems in high school math? Here's the real life application we were all waiting for. :) You can mix materials, pair different prints, whatever your little heart desires!
Here's a detailed breakdown of the styles shown above -
Meghan Markle
This is such a perfect example of monochrome dressing. In particular, I like the mixed media look of the silk top with a tailored leather skirt. Barely-there nude pumps were a smart choice, rather than adding another shade of green.

Victoria Beckham
It's a little hard to tell in the image, but Beckham is wearing a striped shirt here. The floral skirt has a subtle stripe to it as well, which makes for a successful pattern pairing. Also, instead of rolling up the shirt sleeves, she has them buttoned and pushed up to the elbows. Such a unique styling.

Melania Trump
A traditional white button-down with the collar turned up provides a polished backdrop for this gingham skirt. The wrap detail is so chic. White pumps go perfectly with her shirt and keep the look bright and summery.

The Heartland Lady Look
Here, I'm wearing a light blue oxford button-down with the collar turned up. The oxford is about $36 from Land's End on sale, and also comes in stripes and a few prints. My black skirt is actually a rummage sale find. I liked it because it falls below the knee, isn't uncomfortably/inappropriately tight… plus pockets, y'all! Never, ever underestimate what can be found a rummage sale, thrift store, or antique mall. If you go in with a very clear idea of what you want, you can likely find it. When I found this, I had walked into the building thinking "Black, tailored skirt" and that's exactly what I got. For 3 dollars, if I remember right. Nine West black leather pumps from DSW (these come in a plethora of colors and materials.) They are my most favorite pair ever! The same clean lines of a Louboutin style, but several hundred dollars less.
'Til next time,
Eva
