For a Throwback Thursday feature, I thought I'd share a poem I wrote back in high school. It was an assignment for my sophomore year English class, where we had to compose a sonnet following Shakespearean form (unaccented/accented, 10 syllables per line, etc.) It was challenging, yet fun, and I was pretty pleased with how mine turned out.
Here's what I came up with all those years ago. Not bad for a 15-year-old!
Starlight of Autumn
When summer is gone, with autumn ahead,
All sense of tragedy gone from my mind,
The leaves turning hues of topaz and red,
My sorrowful thoughts are left far behind.
Light in the forest makes patterns like lace,
Sweet songbirds alighted on branches sing.
Sun shines most brilliant rays upon my face,
Bells, in the tower, rejoicing, all ring.
And yet, this beauty must fall into night,
My heart remains still joyful and merry.
The stars simply radiant, beaming bright,
Faint, wispy clouds, their aura still carry.
Though love, at times, may quite troublesome seem,
Stars of the autumn eternally gleam.
Feel free to snap your fingers here as you would for a beatnik poetry reading. ;)
And to go along with the poem, some fall moments that I've photographed over the years...
'Til next time,
Eva
